GIIS Noida students celebrated International Yoga Day in advance, before the onset of their summer vacations, by practicing the discipline under the guidance of professional instructors and teachers. The celebrations started with a prayer to invoke the blessings of almighty God followed by lamp lighting by our esteemed Chief Guest, respected Principal Sir and our honourable Academic Coordinator Ms Madhuri Kaw. It was a great honour to welcome Dr. Naeem Ahmad who is Dean of Yoga and Naturopathy Department as our Chief Guest, and our Special Guest, Dr Filipa Gomes Viana - Corporate Lawyer from Portugal with a keen interest in yoga and spirituality.
The Academic Coordinator, Ms Madhuri Kaw addressed the gathering and motivated the students to keep themselves physically and mentally fit by doing yoga regularly.
As part of celebrations, students of grade 6 to 8 performed various asanas of Surya Namaskar. It was great to see the musical demonstration of advanced Asanas by our energetic students. The Yogic Pyramid demonstration done by the students of grade 12 was highly appreciated by all. Our Special Guest, Dr Filipa Gomes Viana addressed our students by telling them about the spiritual, mental and other benefits of yoga around the world. She added that yoga is all about the system that aims at the wellness of humans including the body, mind and soul.
It is well said “End your day with a positive thought”. The session concluded with a meditation session by our Chief Guest, Dr Naeem Ahmad on the theme ‘Focus on Set Mind’. Everyone present joined the session that taught them about reliving stress and increasing focus by the means of meditation and chanting.
This year’s International Yoga Day focuses on the benefits of the discipline and was observed with the aim of achieving holistic health of every child. A growing trend of embracing Yoga is being practiced by the people around the world to stay healthy and rejuvenated, and to fight social isolation and depression. The celebrations were intended to familiarize students with importance of mental and physical health and the need of striking a balance between both by following a healthy and a mindful lifestyle.
