Heritage day celebrations at GIIS Noida

Heritage is personal to individuals. It is unique and gives an inherited sense of family identity as the values, traditions, culture, and artefacts are passed down from previous generations to the future ones. Heritage for us means legacy that the youth of today must carry on with themselves, for the traditions and cultural values to stay alive and existent.

To create awareness among the primary students of Global Indian International School, Noida, Heritage week was observed for the students of grades 3-5. A variety of activities were conducted to create awareness by engaging students in exciting activities on the topic; several competitions were also organized to encourage these young minds to explore various aspects of Indian culture.

Grade 3 students participated in tribal mask making and face painting activities. Students were asked to learn and explore the culture and traditions of the tribal people and then create artwork that depicts their understanding of the tribal values and customs. Students had made some beautiful masks and even painted their faces, to look like tribal people, with help of their parents and family members.

Grade 4 students were given the theme of “Flavours of India”  to showcase their creativity by preparing a dish of a particular state of India along with a two-minute presentation to describe the speciality they have cooked with the help and support of their parents. Each child spoke very well to describe the special dish(es) eaten by the people of various states, including the common spices used, food grains, pulses, vegetables and fruits grown in those places.

For grade 5, the theme was“ MY INDIA, MY PRIDE”. Children had to showcase their creativity through virtually touring the monuments and historical places of the country and share pictures, videos and prepare a 3-D Model of the visited heritage sites present across the Indian states. Students researched and created exceptional models of monuments, wildlife sanctuaries, national parks like Qutub Minar, India Gate, Saanchi Stupa, etc. along with a two-minute video presentation to describe important facts related to the monument chosen.

This activity gave a creative dimension to the week-long celebrations as the students were encouraged to learn, research and showcase about the vast values, traditions, culture of various states through the speak-up and presentation activities. These activities not only involved them but also helped them in polishing their communication, presentation, thinking skills, and imagination to a whole new level.
