An eventful August summed up with victories, activities, awards and learnings

Dear Parents,

Namaste!

The month of August proved to be a month of victories, celebrations and felicitations for GIIS Noida. The major highlight of the month was GIIS Noida hosting the 1st GSF Online Chess tournament in collaboration with UPCSA and All India Chess Federation. It was an event that witnessed student participation from 10 GSF schools around the world with more than 600 students coming together and playing for their love of the game. We had the honour of having the presence of Mr. Praveen Thipsay – Indian Chess Grandmaster who graced the event with his presence as the Chief Guest of the tournament. The tournament was played on the online platform tornello.com. Events like these can never happen until the team who is organizing the event put their heart and soul to the preparations, and I wouldn’t be wrong in saying that we did a great job and managed to pull off a three-day event very smoothly. So, I would like to applaud and congratulate my team for doing a wonderful job.

August also showered with numerous victories and recognitions that were brought in by our students. Tarusha Joshi and Raghav Kandwal won the first and second positions at the inter-GIIS story narration competition. Continuing the winning streak, Grade 5A student – Aryaman Chhabra, bagged a Gold Medal in the singing competition organized by Performing Arts India. And the icing on the cake was Nysha Bhatnagar of grade 4 winning gold medal in the 3rd ranking Roller Skating National Championship 2022.

At GIIS Noida, this month was no less than the previous ones. Human values week, janmashtami, independence day, heritage week, linguistic week, inter-house dance competition to celebrate the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, rakhi making, thinking Thursday activities for the pre-primary wing, etc. were some of the many activities conducted to give students a wholesome learning experience.

As a part of the Career Guidance Program at GIIS, a pep talk session was organized for the senior students of the school where they got to understand about liberal education and professions that have scope and cannot be replaced by AI. We also invited a team of professionals for a workshop on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to spread awareness on learning disabilities and challenges among the teachers and staff members of the school. It was quite an insightful session for our teachers as they got an opportunity to understand various problems faced by the ASD individuals and learned ways of tackling those problems with calmness, love and care.
