The Enchanting World of Storytelling Comes Alive at GIIS KL

GIIS KL English Department recently hosted a Storytelling Competition for Cambridge students from Year 1 to Year 10. 
 

This competition provided a platform for students to develop their communication, critical thinking, and performance skills, aligning perfectly with GIIS's emphasis on the 9GEMS specifically Gem 3 (Visual and Performing Arts), Gem 4 (Personality Development), Gem 7 (Universal Values and Ethics), and Gem 9 (Skills Development), all of which are integral to a well-rounded education.  and UN SDG goals. The competition also supported the UN's Sustainable Development Goals; SDG 4 (Quality Education) by fostering a love for language and storytelling.
 

In the weeks leading up to the final round, students participated in preliminary competitions within their classrooms. The top 3 storytellers from each year group then advanced to the grand finale held on June 28th, 2024, at the GIIS KL Auditorium.
 

On the day of the competition, the Auditorium buzzed with anticipation as students from Year 1 to Year 10 assembled, eager to showcase their storytelling prowess. The top 3 finalists from each year group, dressed to impress and armed with props, captivated the audience with their narratives.
 

The competition commenced with the Primary students, who enthralled the judges and their peers with stories based on the theme of myths and legends. Their imaginative tales transported the audience to fantastical worlds, showcasing their grasp of language and storytelling techniques.
 

The Secondary students followed, taking center stage with stories centered around the theme of mystery. Their suspenseful narratives kept the audience on the edge of their seats, demonstrating their ability to craft compelling plots and deliver them with confidence.
 

The Cambridge Storytelling Competition served as a testament to the power of storytelling in nurturing young minds. It provided students with a platform to express themselves creatively, develop essential skills, and celebrate the magic of language.
