GIIS KL has once again been made proud in the field of sports as Aiman Arafat Mohammed from GIIS represented the Kuala Lumpur cricket team in the National Cricket Under-16 Sport Excell Championship held from 8th to 12th March 2023 in Port Klang. Aiman's team made it to the final encounter against a formidable team from Perak, where the game went down to the wire.
The final score reflected a closely contested match, with Perak scoring 126 runs for the loss of 8 wickets, and KL finishing with 123 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Despite the narrow loss, Aiman's team secured a well-deserved silver medal, with Aiman himself receiving the Man of the Match award.
Aiman's dedication and talent have brought him this far, and he is not stopping yet. He has set his sights on the Malaysia International U-16 ACC Asian region qualifier World U-16 Cricket Championship, scheduled for mid-May. Additionally, his team will be traveling to Melbourne in October to play some test matches with local cricket clubs there.
Aiman credits his success to his long-time coach, Mr. Neville Liyanage, who has been training him at the Royal Selangor Club and the GIIS KL campus. Aiman's achievements have made his school and community proud, and he serves as an inspiration to aspiring cricketers in Malaysia.
This achievement falls in line with Gem 2 (Sports Excellence) of the GIIS 9Gems Holistic Education Framework. We believe in giving students great opportunities and sports facilities in indoor and outdoor sports, to bring out the sportsman in them. School sports are foundational activities for students, which can help build physical strength, mental toughness, character and collaborative nature in students. We enhance all this with data analytics which gives students an edge to excel in a sport of their choice.
