GIIS KL students from Standard 1B took center stage on Friday, August 16, 2024, to celebrate World Orangutan Day. The assembly was a heartwarming showcase of young minds united in their mission to protect these endangered primates.
The event aligned with GIIS' 9 GEMS values, particularly Visual and Performing Arts(Gem 3), Personality Development(Gem 4), Universal Values and Ethics (Gem 7), and Community and Care (Gem 8). It also supported United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Quality Education, Responsible Consumption and Production, and Life on Land.
Students delved into the fascinating world of orangutans, learning about their habitats, behaviors, and the threats they face due to deforestation and the illegal pet trade. Two students brought the creatures to life with engaging masks and acting, while the class performed a captivating orangutan song. Their presentations were a testament to their research skills, creativity, and passion for conservation.
Principal Ms. Dipti Joshna emphasized the importance of understanding and respecting all living beings and encouraged them to continue their efforts to protect our planet.
The Standard 1B assembly served as a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of all life on Earth. By raising awareness about orangutans and their plight, these young students are contributing to a brighter future for these majestic creatures and our planet as a whole.
