GIIS Whitefield unveils state-of-the-art Multi-Purpose Hall and honours the Champions - GEMS of GIIS

The unveiling of the Multi-Purpose hall and the felicitation of the champions of GIIS Whitefield was a ceremonious programme. The event was held on the 19th of October 2019. This event also recognised and honoured the GIIS Sports achievers. Special guests Mr Shreesh Reddy (National Swimming Champion) and Mr Yash Makkar (RO, CBSE Bangalore) were invited for this event. They congratulated the school and the students for their achievements in sports. Mr Rajiv Bansal (Director of Operations, GIIS India) appreciated the dedication of the coaches, teachers and the students for the exemplary results in different streams of sports and the overall growth of the school over the years. Ms Sharmila Choudhuri (Principal, GIIS Bannerghatta campus) and Mr Ramprakash (GIIS Infrastructure Partner) were also present to motivate and appreciate the students.

The programme began with the prayer and the lighting of the lamp ceremony by all the guests along with Dr Shivananda C S (Principal), Ms Preetha D'Mello (Head Mistress), Ms Anuradha J and Ms Jeelu Varghese (Academic Coordinators). This was followed by the formal unveiling of the MPH and a song and dance performance by the students. The stage welcomed all the sports winners of the current academic year and appreciated them for making the school proud.

New MPH Hall was unveiled for all the students and parents. This state of the art facility has wood flooring and radiated blend of earthy green and white colours. It is a spacious, fully air-conditioned hall that has been equipped with a world-class sound system and UPS facility for uninterrupted power supply. The ground floor has rooms to facilitate training to the students in Yoga, Piano, Aerobics, table tennis and many other indoor games.

Sport is an integral part of GIIS's curriculum and through this felicitation, we wanted to honour our students’ contribution and dedication towards sports. The CBSE Cluster 8 (Karnataka U-19 Boys) Football Championship Winners (team) and the Candor Fest Winners/ Runners Up in Athletics, Football 6 A Side and Lawn Tennis were felicitated with certificates, medals and trophies.

Individual champions amazed the audience with their list of achievements. Mitul K-grade 5 student popular chess champ of our campus was honoured with a trophy and highly praised for his stupendous achievements in National level Chess. Aditya Patil-grade 7, scored incredibly high in the State level 177 Peep Sight Rifle shooting and has qualified to represent Karnataka at the National level rifle shooting in the youth category in December 2019. Sai Sahasra Badam and Ashwin of Grade 8 and 9 respectively, have won many medals in lawn tennis in the State and National levels. They are constant players who always show the verve for the game and exhibit high endurance level in every tournament. Vaishnavi Ivaturi of Grade 10, an excellent midfielder in football has an art of scoring goals.

Mr Rajiv Bansal congratulated all the galaxy of achievers in sports and mentioned that this would not have been possible without the efforts of all the teachers, coaches and the unconditional care and support of the parents. He emphasised that GIIS curriculum and the award-winning 9 GEMS educational framework lay equal emphasis to all facets of a child’s development whether it is academic or sports excellence. He said that the Gold Squad Programme was initiated a year back based on specialized grading pattern. Professional training has given GIIS students very good opportunities to showcase their ignited sportsmanship spirit and the recent CBSE Cluster 8 (Karnataka U-19 Boys) Football Championship was a remarkable achievement.

It was a moment to celebrate the achievements of these GEMS of GIIS and their success with months of practice and guidance of the sports coaches, support of the parents and the best understanding of teachers while helping the aspiring young children with academics.
