GIIS Balestier Campus students as traffic marshalls create awareness about road safety

Workshop on Identifying Children with Learning Differences

Ahaan Dhar, Class 3

My school GIIS Balestier campus regularly arranges for interactive field trips as part of our education. This year we were taken to the Road Safety Community Park at East Coast Parkway. We were pleasantly surprised to see traffic wardens waiting to welcome us. After a short briefing, we were divided into groups of cyclists, drivers, marshals and pedestrians.

Each group was given a route map and had to follow the route and the instructions, keeping in mind the traffic rules explained to us. I was made a traffic marshal and, along with the other marshals, took up my position at the bus stop. I guided pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

This experience taught us a lot about road safety. It also reminded us about important traffic rules that we often take for granted.
