“Learning in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) provides many formal and informal opportunities for students to demonstrate how they have developed and applied their knowledge, conceptual understandings, skills and learner profile attributes through the inquiries they undertake.” (IBO, 2018)
The PYP Exhibition conducted in the final year is the culmination of the learning experience of the student. It is one of such opportunities where students conduct an in-depth inquiry into global issues that they are passionate about. They collaborate with their peers, with the guidance of selected PYP teachers as their mentor. Through the exhibition, students demonstrate their ability to take responsibility for their learning and their capacity to take action.
This year, the PYP 5 Exhibition of the EC campus was held on the 18th of March 2021. The event was pre-recorded and live telecast for parents, friends, and families t watch via Zoom webinar.
The PYP 5 cohort, comprising only six students, decided to inquire into four (4) globally significant issues:
- Pollution,
- Responsible Product Testing,
- Declining Biodiversity, and
- Destruction of Cultural Sites
Each group had been assigned a mentor who shared the same passion as the group and who facilitated and guided the team in their journey from creating their unit central ideas and lines of inquiries to planning and executing their action.
The programme was hosted by Aarav Karthik and Vatsla Pandey. It began with a welcome address by the PYP 5 Homeroom teacher and PYP Coordinator, Ms Odaia Ranido. She welcomed parents and guests and shared how proud she is of the achievement of the entire class. It was then followed by kind words of encouragement from our Head of School, Mr CVK Sastry. The PYP 5 cohort then showed a short but meaningful musical performance in the tune of “In This Together” reminding everyone that it is not too late to save our planet if we change our ways and connect the dots to our problem.
Krithin Jay Pakshootra gave a short introduction to the the PYP exhibition and showed a compilation of pictures depicting their journey. Followed by the acknowledgement of the different mentors by Aditya Sas Kanakamedala. The presentations from each group then followed with a brief question and answers session. Shreyas Kurapati also led the appreciation to their subject specialist teachers for their support.
Towards the end of the programme, students received a Certificate of Recognition for the successful completion of the PYP Exhibition. The event then ended with closing remarks by Aman Shamim.
