October has been an eventful month packed with awards, accolades, and accomplishments

The recently concluded Asia Cup taught us a lesson or two about life…. Sri Lanka – a country battered by turmoil, rose up and beyond to win the finals against the formidable Pakistan.

And just about yesterday, India rose from the ruins in the T20 World Cup, like a phoenix to snatch victory from the jaws of assured defeat.

That’s the beauty of sports – it’s poetry in motion, unpredictable, uncertain; testing your grit, belief, determination, and mettle. Therefore, touching the finish line is always an accomplishment, showing how far you have come, how unshakable was your belief, and how you didn’t give up during testing times. And your reverence for your opponent increases manifold.

These are our learnings and takeaways from our recently concluded Sports Day in the Dr LM Singhvi Stadium of GIIS - EC where the competing teams stood head-to-head and each member of the respective Houses stood shoulder-to-shoulder to display true sportsmanship. Emotions run high along with adrenaline, reminding us yet again – it is this compassion and fellowship that need to be nurtured among students to build empathy and the ability to see beyond themselves.

October is also the month when we celebrate the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi- The Father of the Nation. His philosophies, teachings stand the test of time and should permeate the soul of all human beings. This year was also no different in EC as we fashioned grade-appropriate activities to sensitise the students to his vision and keep his teachings like a jewel in the hollow of their hands, guiding them throughout their lives. It is this collective flame of righteous students, who we are convinced, will lead the world on the path of wisdom.

Yet another feather is added to our cap! GIIS EC is the proud winner of the much-anticipated HiQ interschool quiz competition – a much sought-after event that warrants participation from all the reputed schools of Singapore. This nerve wrecking competition assesses students’ capability to think on their feet while keeping calm. And our young students rose to the occasion and …how! It’s no mean feat and each member of the team deserves the highest praise for validating and taking forward the reputation of our school as a centre for holistic education and going beyond the books.

This is the perfect platform to share another exciting news! Neyan Melabudi Bhaskar of Grade 3 CBSE of GIIS – EC is the ‘Country Topper’ in the ‘Challenger’ category of the Mental Math World Cup 2022. This platform saw the coming together of his dexterity, alertness and resolve and our hearts fill with pride at the stupendous achievement of this young student. The road ahead is long and I, on behalf of all the teachers, join hands in wishing him more success in his future competitions. The world is your oyster, Neyan!

Finally, I sincerely hope Diwali has brightened our lives further and filled our lives with happiness, positivity and laughter.

May our lives continue to sparkle…

Thank you!
