Though Covid-19 pandemic has forced an unprecedented global shut down, which has had a great impact on sports and active living, it could not stop GIIS East Coast Campus from conducting the Chess Tournament to encourage and motivate the young chess players and their parents too.
On 17th Oct 2020, Saturday from 10am to 2:00pm, in collaboration with Go Checkmate, GIIS East Coast Campus organized a Virtual Chess tournament for the first time, a thrilling event in which around 215 students from different Singapore based international and local schools, and 13 parents took part.
The main objective of this tournament was to provide a healthy competition for the students and parents and to develop a healthy relationship amongst the participants. There were 5 age categories for the students, 8U, 9U, 10U, 12U and 14U and an open category for parents where there was no age restriction. Around 43 students and 2 parents from GIIS East Coast campus took part. Both students and parents were very happy to participate in this tournament and praised its smooth conduction.
