The GIIS East Coast choir recreated the song “We Shall Overcome” and recorded a music video which was published on YouTube channel to lift-up the spirit of people directly or indirectly affected by Coronavirus.

As a music teacher, I was motivated to bring my students together and use the power of music to do something worthwhile that will help the society presently facing a crisis due to the pandemic. I felt that although COVID-19 has imposed restriction on us to be apart, we can still find ways to be together and help each other in regaining the lost faith.

With the use of Zoom video conferencing tool, I conducted a special zoom class for all my students to share tips on recording the video. After training them and allocating the parts each of them has to record, I guided the students on their expressions, body language and costume they should wear while recording the video.

Once the students sent their video clips through WhatsApp, I created the final video by joining the individual clips through a video editing software.

The music video was my vision which became a success with the collaborative and dedicated efforts of GIIS EC choir students. I feel extremely proud of them.

I wish all of us to overcome this difficult period as soon as possible and get back to our normal lives. Till then, stay home and stay safe.
