GIIS East Coast Campus celebrates India’s 75th Independence Day

- Jai Chhallani, 9A IGCSE

As the nation comes together again, for India's 75th Independence Day all of our heads rise with pride as we celebrate our freedom from British rule and recount upon those who sacrificed their lives for us to be able to live the moment, we currently are in.

GIIS, East-Coast Campus also took pride in celebrating this year's Indian Independence Day. The celebrations took place virtually on 14th of August in response to the COVID-19 safety measures where students were given a platform to show their love for our country, India and commemorate this day by showcasing their talents in their unique ways.

This event started off with a speech by the head boy and head girl in Hindi as well as English, wherein students got a brief look into the history of India and its grapple for freedom. The celebrations then moved onto melodious and heart-touching songs - One song by the choir and one sung by the leaders of tomorrow, the kindergarteners. A classical Odissi dance followed and the celebrations concluded with the principal’s speech, who mentioned how grateful we were to be called an independent nation and what we should do as responsible citizens for the country.

To pay a Tribute to both Singapore and India the national anthems of both the countries were sung. Independence Day in India is also celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm. On this day we all pay a tribute to those due to which India breathes the air of freedom. This event sure taught us and emphasized on the importance of independence which is to keep the spirit of independence and patriotism alive. So, while we have geared up for this wonderful day, it also reminds us of what we should do as responsible citizens, which is to pay homage to all those who brought this independence to us and to promise to do our part to help the nation succeed and develop. It truly made us feel proud to be Indians and participate in such a gratifying and heart felt event and once again a very happy virtual Independence Day from GIIS, East-Coast Campus.
