Dear Parents,
Welcome to the start of the new school year! And to the parents/guardians a warm welcome to our GIIS East Coast Campus families. We hope your child/ward had a good start in week 1 and is looking forward to another exciting year of learning and growth.
As we look forward to in April with the school opening fully on-site and students attending school in person is a real milestone and something that can only have been achieved with an aligned and vigilant community. The ability to create the substantial extra value that characterises our school in the current pandemic, without sacrificing safety, is remarkable.
This week we have seen a flurry of events related activities in school. Starting this month, we welcomed new and existing parents with a “Meet and Greet session” held virtually on 7 April for all classes. Following this was Earth Day celebrations on 22 April. Earth Day is an annual event and the school celebrates it through a series of activities conducted on campus to celebrate our planet, protect nature and care for mother earth. These activities educate our students to protect the environment and focus on the need for conservation.
English literary week was organized with great enthusiasm in East Coast Campus from 19 to 23 April with several motivating and inspiring activities to hone the skills of students.
World Book Day was organised on 23 April 2021 and students were explained the importance of reading and how it can develop good listening and speaking skills. Students were dressed in their favourite character and had a guest speaker from the National Library Board talk on the importance of reading. Students were introduced to the e-book app 'Libby' to embrace technology in the best way possible.
From April 8th, we had resumed ECAs and CCAs in a new format to adhere to the Covid safety measures and guidelines. CCAs- Robotics (coding) is compulsory for CBSE & PYP class 1 to 5 and, grades 6 to 8 will have Visual Arts and Performing Arts. ECAs have started with divided class groups of 8 where six coaches are training students in cricket, basketball, football and athletics on a rotation basis.
In closing, I want to reiterate our gratitude for your continued support and wish you and your family good health and good spirits.
Warm Regards,
Vice-Principal
