Principal's Message - Activities in February at GIIS Dubai

Dear Parents,

Thank you to all our students, parents and staff for the immense support during the recently concluded DSIB Inspections. It was a wonderful experience and while we will share the official inspection report soon, I am glad to inform that GIIS dubai has come out with flying colors and richer in experience from the experience.

Prior to the DSIB inspection, we also underwent an ISO External Audit for ISO 9001:2015, 45001:2018, 21001:2018 which will help us to evaluate and improve our internal management system by identifying any key deficiencies found as well as providing remedies for their resolution.

As always, our kindergarten children were engaged in active learning through a wide array of hands-on activities in the month of February. Children expressed their gratitude to our support staff on gratitude day. Our little ones had fun at a Hawaiian-themed beach party. They were encouraged to share their books in good condition for the school library. They were able to develop fine motor and math skills while preparing refreshing lemonade. Children pretended to be authors and wrote their own fiction stories .

Grade 3-8 students attempted the mandatory ASSET exam for English, Maths, and Science. The school has introduced the Pupil Attitudes to Self and School (PASS) survey to ensure that we can gauge how our students feel about themselves, their engagement with the curriculum, and their feelings about school. PASS uncovers the hidden emotional or attitudinal problems within individuals or cohorts (such as low self-regard or attitudes to teachers) which is likely to hinder their achievement at school. All the children from Grade 3-9 have attempted the survey.

At this time of the year, we are focused on assisting our Grade 10 students with their preparation for the CBSE AISSE.Our grade 9 have begun their Grade 10 classes already.

The 9 GEMS educational framework was successfully implemented with different activities conducted in all the subjects. We are pleased with the progress shown by the students in all grades in their academics. We had a successful PTM for Grades 1-10 and received valuable feedback and appreciation from parents.

Students from Grade 3-8 took part in the Debates on different topics. Topics were shared in advance grade-wise and the debates took place during the club period. Students expressed their point of view with a lot of enthusiasm. The classes were lively and we saw our students become persuasive speakers, critical listeners, and analytical thinkers. Grade 6-8 students participated in the “Thank you Expo 2020” poster making during their club period. Students were motivated to create a slogan and share an inclusive vision for the world at expo 2020.

Staff development :

POSCO: Dr. Jane Eyre conducted a workshop on POSCO.(Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) ACT for all staff to aim to spread awareness about child sexual abuse and the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Reimagining the English Classroom: The workshop was held in GIIS Dubai on 26th February 2022 by Mr.C.P Viswanath CEO and co-founder of Karadi Path Education company, India attended by UAE principals and teachers.

A webinar on Positive and Proactive Parenting was  held by Dr. Tulika Sharma, Psychiatrist virtually for all parents of GIIS. The sessions were very interactive and informative and techniques on positive and proactive parenting were shared.

We’d like to express deep gratitude to our parent volunteers for volunteering so generously during the past few weeks. Their contributions to support us in the preparation for DSIB inspection has been truly commendable. The effort of parent volunteers play a vital role in nurturing our school community spirit.

The month of March will see us engaging in enriching the curriculum, enhancing facilities and provision, planning diverse and engaging learning experiences for your ward for next academic year 2022-2023.
