It seems as if our lives were suddenly hijacked by COVID-19. Classes were no longer allowed in the school and we all were in lockdown. But, the indomitable human spirit reasserted itself and we explored new avenues and methods to continue student engagement and learning opportunities as we moved classes online.

The Inter-house competitions at GIIS Dubai that were held every Tuesdays are back with a bang!!

As we are aware the Inter-house competitions are a major pastoral and extra-curricular side of school which not only develops students academic skills but also the 21st century skills. They aim to reflect the ethos of the school and we try to develop this by fostering a sense of community, awareness of each other and a sense of being part of a team.

We organize many House events throughout the year and this blend ensures that everyone has the opportunity to represent their House in something that they enjoy or are good at. All students have the opportunity to earn House points as they are all invited and encouraged to take part in all events and everything from their artistic efforts to their musical and sporting ability can contribute to the scores.

Although the teachers facilitate these events, we encourage students to take the lead in their management and organization which further develops their wider skills of Leadership.

Our activities for this term were:

Show your Art- to draw out the latent Ravi Vermas and Amrita Sher Gills in GIIS Dubai - ‘Show Your Art’ competition was held. The competition was live class wise and the topics were announced on the spot. For grades 1 and 2 the topics were ‘a bunch of flowers/ flower pot; for grades 3, 4 and 5 - ‘A single object Art and for grades 6, 7, 8 and 9 - ‘Landscape/Street Art. The students displayed a variety of techniques to express their interpretation and turned in their artworks on Google classroom.

Sing a song- The students were asked to perform a song for under 3 minutes. The performance was to be filmed and uploaded .The performances were way above our expectations. Thanks to our parent community who are always with us in all our endeavors.

English language based competition - English is the main language of communication and instruction globally. Students get opportunities to prove their talent through various activities viz.  Poetry writing & recitation , story writing and telling Limerick writing etc.

H/F/Islamic competition – We strive to make our students Global citizens and multi-linguist. They are equally adept at expressing themselves in Hindi or French. Here their skills are tested through slogan writing, Poster making and writing an advertisement.

Arabic competition - Utmost importance is given to the language of the land –Arabic. Our students very enthusiastically and successfully participate in various activities using Arabic.

Math Subject competition - those who thought that there’s a monster in math, now found out that math is fun and interesting. Various activities using mathematical concepts are organised to dispel all the fears and reiterate that Math is fun.

Science subject competition- Science is not a subject it is our life and living. This concept is etched in the minds of our students. Activities with science is among the most favorite for our students

What more, we devise innovative ways of engaging Parents along with children - other-daughter dance, Father-son quiz are on the anvil.
