Students from across the UAE gathered at the Global Students' Summit, a prestigious two-day interschool competition, held at GIIS Dubai, to explore and advocate for innovative solutions to global sustainability challenges. This year’s summit brought together over 326 students from 26 schools, featuring a range of competitions including Model United Nations (MUN), a podcast challenge, robotics innovation, ad creation, project presentations, and a unique sustainable fashion show, all centred around the critical theme of sustainability.
One of the event’s highlights was the Model United Nations (MUN) segment, where students debated critical global issues such as renewable energy, climate policy, and plastic pollution. Through these discussions, young delegates learned negotiation and policy-making skills, gaining insights into the complexity of international cooperation on environmental issues.
In the robotics innovation challenge, student teams designed and presented robots aimed at addressing specific sustainability concerns, such as waste management and water conservation. The podcast challenge gave participants the opportunity to voice their opinions on global sustainability, creating engaging audio content to raise awareness and drive change. Meanwhile, in the ad creation contest, teams developed captivating campaigns promoting eco-friendly practices, demonstrating how powerful storytelling can be in changing public attitudes.
The sustainable fashion show was a crowd favourite, as students showcased their creations using repurposed and sustainable materials. This event not only underscored the creative possibilities within sustainable fashion but also demonstrated the environmental benefits of reducing waste through upcycling.
The event concluded with an award ceremony where judges praised the students for their commitment, ingenuity, and advocacy for a more sustainable world. The winning teams were awarded trophies and certificates.
With this year’s Global Students’ Summit, GIIS Dubai succeeded in creating a platform where young minds could come together, collaborate, and inspire one another.
