GIIS, Dubai observed Earth Day by upholding the vision of United Nations

GIIS, Dubai celebrated Earth Day by observing the vision of the United Nations. The activities were focused on endorsing the theme of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030. Students came up with various innovative solutions through Quality Circles and Kaizen Projects for eliminating paper wastage, depending on digital posters, controlling E-waste and discovering ways to reduce, recycle and restore natural resources.

 

Students from the primary section had STREAM lessons celebrating the beauty of nature with activities to explore the habitat of plants, animals and formation of rainbows. Secondary students initiated several Quality Circles projects on various issues affecting biodiversity  resulting in pollution and climate change. E-waste collection drive and water refilling with reusable bottles promoting the “Dubai Can” initiative were some of the projects initiated during the Earth Day celebrations. 

 

The events concluded with a workshop on Conservation of Electricity and Water in association with Mr. Ali Amjad from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) , Govt of Dubai. A special call for action to fight climate change was initiated by students of Grades 7 to 10 through participating in the Sustainable Living Program where students will monitor and take action to avoid wastage of natural resources. The journey of encouraging a sustainable future will be pursued at GIIS, Dubai with coding projects & applications developed by students to help preserve the planet.
