Earth Day Celebration in KG-1

April 22nd is observed as International Earth Day. Celebrating Earth Day serves as a conscious reminder of how fragile our planet is and how important it is to protect it. This has made a positive impact on the environment globally. Young children may not be aware that there are many ways they can participate in protecting the Earth and make it a safer place.

So, the KG I team of Dubai, GIIS has decided to celebrate this important day with an idea to make the young generation realize how they can offer their protective hands for Mother Earth.

It is simple! The children learnt to reduce water usage while brushing their teeth, switch off lights when not inside the room, not to waste paper to avoid cutting of trees etc. These simple steps help children transform into responsible adults.

The day witnessed many exciting activities. The kids dressed up in green, blue, and brown, the earth color attires. They were introduced and given first-hand experience to the concept of 3R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Children put the items brought from home into the designated bins thereby demonstrating 3R’s. Children crowned themselves with a head gear depicting 3R’s, visited AL Bustan area in the school premises to understand how plantations help us protect our planet Earth. These little hearts left paper butterflies showing the need to preserve the beauty of our planet.

The day’s activities tapped on all the vital areas of early years, the art and craft skills, language development, emotional development etc., catering to the holistic development of the child. This was an amazing platform which created an awareness in the children about the world around them. The event was a big success with the support of the parents.
