October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. The goal was to have maximum participation in raising awareness to help support the life-changing cause. To mark this month, a few activities were conducted in the primary and secondary section of the school. The students of Grades 1 and 2 were given a ribbon template to put patterns with pink pencil/pink crayon/pink sketch pen or any pink material. Students of grades 3 and 4 made origami pink bracelets for their mothers. The main objective was to explore the creative fun of a single sheet of 2D paper into a 3D object through the use of paper folding techniques. Students of Grade 5 were given a pink ribbon template and they wrote “A caring poem to their mom/aunt/grandma”. Their poems were not only very poetic & expressive but also  communicated affection and  love for their mothers.

In addition to all these classroom awareness activities, to mark this month, a special talk was conducted for senior grades along with the staff members. Dr. Ishwarya Radha Krishna, a MBBS DMRD, gave a meaningful insight on risk factors, symptoms, stages and treatments. One of her key goals that was discussed was specialized medical services that could examine and detect on time, an important tool to be used in this fight against breast cancer. Self-examination was stressed along with regular check-ups for well-being. The session ended with HOPE kits that are usually given to the patients for comforting and encouraging while undergoing the treatment.

Teachers joined forces to support a common cause that encouraged them to dress up in pink, coining the term Pink October.
