At Global Indian International School, Dubai, Literacy Day is always a momentous occasion, but this year, it was especially heartwarming as our youngest learners from kindergarten took centre stage, showcasing their growing love for words. In a delightful twist, each child carefully selected a word that resonated with them—whether it was something like "joy" or something meaningful like "brave." Proudly wearing their chosen words as garlands or sashes throughout the day, these little ones embodied the power of expression in the purest form.
Throughout the day, the excitement was palpable as our budding wordsmiths eagerly shared their chosen words with friends. Each conversation became a mini vocabulary lesson, with the children explaining the meaning of their word and why they chose it. Whether it was a word that made them feel happy, curious, or inspired, the experience not only broadened their vocabulary but also nurtured their confidence in speaking and sharing their thoughts.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the vibrant word parade that took place in the school's corridors. Our "word warriors" marched with pride, their sashes and garlands fluttering with the magic of words. The parade was a joyful celebration of literacy, creativity, and the uniqueness of every child's chosen word. As they marched, they spread the beauty of language and the importance of literacy, leaving smiles and inspiration in their wake.
Adding to the day’s festivities, our senior prefectorial board took the lead in organising a special reading session for the younger students. With poise and dedication, they selected meaningful short stories, guiding the little ones through new vocabulary and helping them understand the essence of each tale. It was a touching moment as the older students took on the role of mentors, reinforcing the importance of reading while fostering a sense of camaraderie between different age groups.
This Literacy Day celebration was a testament to the power of words, imagination, and the collective joy that comes with learning. Through the word parade and reading sessions, both our youngest and oldest students experienced the magic of literacy, united in their journey of discovery.
