Nurturing the power of observation and analysis among young children

BENGALURU, 11 NOVEMBER, 2018 - The Thinking Thursday activities give children the ticket to discover the world of science through their innocence and focused attention. The Nursery kids were very happy to do the hand washing activity and germ science. This activity involved play in the playground and then cleaning the hand in the classroom. Children were asked to wipe the hands clean after the visit to the playground and then take out a slice of bread from the packet with bare hand. Then they were asked to keep the slice taken out using bare hands inside the bag labelled as touched. They did the same using a pair of tongs. The objective was to teach the importance of washing the hands with soap and water. This was the perfect way to remove all the dirt and wash the germs away from the hands.

KG 1 students understood how a simple machine like a lever works through the recycled catapult activity. A catapult was placed and secured at the edge of the table. It was made using an empty toilet paper tube, plastic spoon and a rubber band. Children were told to observe how the see-saw works and how they enjoy playing by going up and down on the see-saw. It was also explained that see-saw is like a lever where two straight rods are connected at a fixed point and how it goes up and down when two kids are sitting on it. In the Nature colour printing activity by KG 2, they enjoyed learning how natural colours are made and how healthy they are when used in cooking as well. They learnt that eating lot of food with artificial food colours like candies, cakes, chocolates or any processed food is not good for health. They loved creating their art work with the natural colours vegetable printing.
