Buttery treat, Invisible ink and theory behind orange floating or sinking in water

BENGALURU, 07 FEBRUARY, 2019 - With the wide range of activities chosen for pre-primary children, the Thinking Thursday activities are getting exciting for all levels.

Nursery loved the Butter Making Science activity and anything edible would definitely be loved all the more. They learnt about the science of butter making as a fun experiment. After shaking the jar hard and fast for nearly ten minutes, they were rewarded with a delicious version of their self-made yummy butter.

KG 1 students did a wonderful activity wherein they could Write and Visualize words with invisible ink. They were made to write with lemon juice on the paper. Then the papers were kept aside for drying. After 10 minutes the kids held the paper above the candles. They were surprised to see how the invisible letters written by them started appearing on the paper.

KG 2 students did the Float and Sink activity to explore how and why different objects float and sink when placed into water. The children dropped an orange into water and it floated, but when the peel was removed from that same orange, it sank. The unpeeled orange floated because the rind was very porous and filled with tiny pockets of air. The peeled orange was denser and sinks in the water. In this way, they also learnt about the density of objects by finding out which fall objects float, and which sink.
