The virtual field trip for the tiny tots of GIobal Indian International School, Whitefield, a first-of-its-kind, was truly magical for the children as well as for the parents. This time the teachers chose a select few of the popular dream destinations to create a memorable trip for the small wonders. The surprise was the interesting activity called ‘ Strike a pose with Google AR animal’ that gave the kids the larger than life experience of posing with a favorite animal, like with a tiger, polar bear or those listed in this online application, from the comfort of one’s own living space. The parents were provided with the steps to get this clicked from their smartphones.
The Nursery and KG 1 children went to ‘The Little Farm’, in Miami, USA, and KG 2 went to ‘Australia Zoo’, Brisbane, Australia, virtually. Following the norms, a musical invite was sent a week in advance. The students were told to dress up in stylish attire, wear comfortable footwear, carry sunglasses, cap/hat, and a bag/backpack as if going on a trip. On the day of the trip, the children were very excited as their teachers explained about passport, visa, and the importance to have these while checking into the airport and boarding the flight. Then they pretended to pack their bag with all the necessary things like phone, neck pillow, travel card, etc., the teachers showed them their Boarding Pass. They were 'picked up' from school on a virtual GIIS bus ride. They reached school by virtual cab. The kids boarded the school bus and drove to the airport.
Then the airport procedures at the departure gate like showing their passport and boarding pass were explained along with the check-in and luggage, security check, immigration, and boarding the flight using the aero-bridge. On the virtual flight, they got to meet the pilot, got a glance into the 1st class seats, and the sweet air hostesses who virtually guided the kids cheerfully to their respective seats and helped to fasten the seat belts as the flight was about to take off.
The flights reached the respective destinations - Miami International airport (Nursery and KG 1) and Brisbane International airport (KG 2) and then they were guided with the process of immigration, bag collection from the luggage belt before they boarded the tourist bus.
Nursery and KG kids went to the farm and saw different breeds of hens, roosters, ducks and geese, ponies, and many other farm animals. Then came the site seeing in Miami and a special boat ride by Disney after which they went virtual shopping using travel cards. KG 2 saw different animals and birds like Macaw, Koala, Burmese Python, Alligator, Wombat, Kangaroo, Joey, Tiger cub, White Rhino, Meerkat and many more in the zoo. They went for sightseeing of Brisbane and Goldcoast, special Disney boat rise, and 7D Island coaster ride followed by virtual shopping. On their return virtual flight, the process was a bit familiar and they reached home in a secure cab with virtual goodies and interesting stories from their virtual trip to Miami and Australia.
The photos shared by the parents pertaining to the poses with Google AR animals brought sheer joy and excitement for the kids. Parents had high praise for organizing such a creative virtual field trip, during the stay home times, to help the kids make the most from the virtual learning space and take a tour to a foreign land.
