Stupendous performance of students under Sumaja Nambiar's mentoring, in the Learn Storm Challenge

In school, it is proven time and again, that competitions are the best way to help the inner hidden skill or talent of any individual evolve higher- whether a student or a teacher. At GIIS Whitefield, we truly have been gifted with talented and smart students who are always known to show their talent in any competition that they participate in. The achievement to celebrate is from Grade 5G students and their teacher. In the Learn Storm Challenge conducted online by Khan Academy, the students basked a Trophy and Certificate for our school under the mentorship of Ms. Sumaja Nambiar.

In the months of October to December 2020, when the Learn Storm Challenge by Khan Academy was launched, it required a set of assignments to be completed within the stipulated period of time. This was conducted class-wise and depending on the completion of assignments based on different chapters, the entire class was upgraded to the next level. From GIIS Whitefield records show that as many as 850 GIISians took up the Learn Storm Challenge and completed up to different levels.

The students of Grade 5G successfully completed 22 levels and were declared as one among the winning teams under the 'keep going, keep growing' category of the Learn Storm Challenge. This also resulted in our school receiving the Trophy and Certificate.  The children were curious and dedicated to going to the next well. They definitely motivated each other to complete the assignment.

Ms. Sumaja Nambiar received a Tablet as she was the mentor for the students of the winning team of 26 students from Grade 5G. The students received headphones as appreciation, along with certificates and badges, each.

Ms.Sumaja holds an MSc in Physics (Pune University), MA in Clinical Psychology (IGNOU), and Certifications in Special Education and Learning Disability. She specializes in Math and Science in the Primary segment. A genius with numbers, she is a consistent learner herself, focusing on upgrading her knowledge and skills as a teacher. She believes that the training she undertook in the areas of Psychology and Special Education helps her understand the psychological pattern and individual needs of children in a learning environment.

The Learn Storm Challenge was indeed a good opportunity where, in the pursuit of completing the assignments based on the timelines, students helped each other and worked as a team with faith in the timely support given by their mentor Sumaja Mam. As per statistics, GIIS Whitefield students, as many as 850 students, from across all classes, had participated and did bask a good learning experience. Congratulations to the winning team and all the participants from GIIS Whitefield.
