Students toured the world virtually to identify unique International festivals

Festivals are an expressive way to celebrate glorious heritage, culture, and traditions. They are meant to rejoice special moments and emotions in our lives with our loved ones. They play an important role to add structure to our social lives and connect us with our families and backgrounds.

The students of Grade 1 to 5 enjoyed a mini showcase and celebration of internationally famous festivals virtually. Whether it was Songkran in Thailand, Holi and Diwali in India, Carnival in Venice, and the La Tomatina festival in Spain, children journeyed through each of them with a smile of enthusiasm and curiosity to know more. There were activities such as dance, quiz, and art and craft-based on these festivals for the students. There were videos shared that actually tempted many students to visit the places abroad to witness the colorful festivals.

Songkran or the popular water splashing festival rings the New Year bell for Buddhists. They follow specific rituals wherein the statue of Buddha is bathed with water. The holy water is sprinkled over the hands of monks and elders by younger Thais as a symbol of respect.

Holi- the festival of colours known to all Indians across the globe indicates the onset of spring. This is an ancient Indian culture of celebrating the triumph of the good over the evil by spreading the message of love and togetherness.

The festival of lights – Diwali is also known as the ‘row of lights’ in Sanskrit. This symbolizes the illumination of life with new hope, love, happiness, and prosperity.  The city of Leicester, in the UK, holds the largest Diwali celebrations outside India.

The awe-amazing Carnival of Venice is popular for the masks. A festival where the people are seen walking merrily in elaborate costumes to celebrate life with a sense of unity. This is quite unlike their regular attire of their everyday life.

La Tomatino, as the name suggests refers to the friendly tomato fight in Spain. As per the tradition nearly 150,000 over-ripe tomatoes of inferior quality and taste are splattered by people on each other. Tomatoes are natural disinfectant so cleans the skin and so this is definitely a safe fight.

All the students enjoyed participating in all the activities and they expressed their desire to visit the cities of Venice, Spain, and Thailand sometime in the future.
