Students from GIIS Whitefield and Millennia Institute Singapore Come Together for Design Thinking Presentation 2021

Global Indian International School has always emphasized collaborative learning where students from different parts of the world can come together, share their views, enrich each other’s knowledge and participate in healthy competitions. Our vision includes developing global leaders- the leaders who will be able to face any challenge thrown at them and act as flagbearers of peace, harmony, and collective development.

Animating this vision, GIIS Whitefield collaborated with Millennia Institute for the first time and paved a path for students of both the institutions to come together and discuss knotty, burning topics of the world and also endeavor to find innovative solutions. On November 12th, 2021, MI Singapore hosted Design Thinking Presentation 2021 virtually, where students presented upon prominent technology-related issues and provided unique solutions for the same.

The best part about this event was that students got a chance to meet their peers from other country and familiarized themselves with their culture, learning process, and distinct ways of thinking. Students were divided into 8 groups, each group consisting of student representatives from both the institutions and assisted by teachers. The first day of the event was all about getting attuned to the culture of both the countries and each team beautifully highlighted the significance of food, language, festivals, tourist attractions, fun facts, national flag, sports, and arts of India and Singapore. 24 students from GIIS Whitefield took part in the presentation under the mentorship of our beloved principal Mr. Ashwani Saxena, while 8 teachers- Ms. Soma Chakraboraty, Ms. Ratnadipa, Ms. Swathi K, Ms. Vinisha, Ms. Nilanjana Sarkar, Ms. Sumaja, Ms. Ajitha and, Ms. Jeelu Varghese (Primary Academic Coordinator) as facilitator ensured that the students have access to everything they require during the preparation and final presentation.

In today’s world, nothing has flourished as enormously as technology. The previous decade was marked for our growing dependence on technology and with the Covid pandemic coming into the picture, digitization became the world’s sole savior. At times like these when we are completely enslaved by digital tools, the issues attached to them often go unattended. The Design Thinking Presentation 2021 was one such platform that provided our students with an opportunity to dredge out prevailing technological issues and suggest potential solutions and ideas for them.

From cyber security and concerns regarding online learning to virtual communications, detrimental effects of fake news and much more, students brilliantly pointed out the modern-day problems related to the digital realm and offered great solutions with innovative app ideas. Their presentations were judged by esteemed panelists- Ms. Gargi Pawar (Director & Head of Indian Industry), Mr. Yeo Zhihan (Strategic Programmer of SGTech), Mr. Eric Tan (Director of Institutional Development SIPO), and Mr. Himanshu Daya (Senior Asst. Director of SIPO). Many other guests from both the institutions were also present to make this virtual interaction more eventful.

The app ideas proposed by each group were well-researched and out-of-the-box, making it difficult for the panelists to choose a winner. Finally, 3 groups were selected as winners since their app ideas showed exceptional potential and applicability. Following were the solutions put forward by the winning groups:

Groups

Group D

Using Technology to enhance communication among students

Group H

Students of GIIS Whitefield once again proved that their imagination, creativity, and talents know no bounds and they have the capability to excel at every venture they undertake. We are extremely proud of all the students who made this event a huge success and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
