For years the Global School Exchange program has fostered a spirit of collaboration and teamwork. In continuation to that legacy, this year Global Indian International School, Whitefield has been chosen to be the host for an interesting collaborative project “To Calculate the Earth’s Radius by Eratosthenes Method”, one of the topics in Physics for the 9th grade students.
The participating schools were GIIS campuses in Noida, Whitefield and Singapore. The interesting and unique aspect of this GSE competition was that this was a collaborated approach wherein each team was titled a unique name consisting of team members of two campuses.
The results are as follows:

At Stage 1, respective campuses were required to form two teams with a maximum of 2 students from Grade 9 specifically in each team, and a teacher in charge. After receiving the registration, GIIS Whitefield - the host school, decided as to which combination of teams from different campuses would collaborate on the project and perform the activity/experiment, and the same was informed to the respective campuses. Then the teams with members belonging to different campuses caught up via Zoom meeting for the preparation of the presentation slides. They also prepared a 60 seconds video to be showcased on the final day of the presentation. On the final day, the teams gave their presentation virtually via Zoom. The presentation was in the format wherein they had to follow the history of the Eratosthenes method, principle, and concept of calculating the Earth’s radius. There was a question and answer session as well.
The GSE interaction gave an immense learning experience. This time, since the competition involved students from different GEOs working as a team, there was so much to share and also make new friends in the process.
GIIS Global Student Exchange is a unique platform at GIIS that helps students to showcase their innovative ideas and also helps them express their views confidently and creatively. Congratulations to all the winners and participants.
