STEAM education comprises of project-based learning in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths and is a holistic approach to learning that encourages students to think critically, solve problems using creativity, and explore innovative ideas on their own. Pre-Primary kids of GIIS Whitefield celebrated STEAM week with great gusto and enthusiasm and got around many concepts under the five STEAM disciplines in the most fun and engaging ways.
Starting the Day 1 with Science, kids were overjoyed to see their parents in the campus as the first day activity-list included fun science experiments and demonstration sessions by the parents. It was great to watch them take charge and performed simple science experiments like floating eggs, walking water, mixing colours, and many more, along with their little ones which incited curiosity in the young minds.
Second Day of the STEAM Week was dedicated to Technology and Nursery kids learnt about coding through fun games. KG 1 and KG 2 kids too were super excited to play a unique maze game to learn about directions and create functional robotic hand using straws and threads that turned out to be the highlight of the week.
On the third day, kids learnt about the significance of Engineering through many exercises. Where Nursery students used simple blocks to build a bridge over a river, KG1 and KG2 kids were engaged in making working models demonstrating how pulley system and roller coaster works.
The fourth day was dedicated to Arts where kids got the opportunity to play around with colours and try their hands on pulled string art and salt painting. Using different fun techniques, kids loved channelling their inner artists and came up with beautiful masterpieces.
The final day of the week included Mathematics-related activities and exercises. While the Nursery tiny tots were busy making shapes with playdough, KG1 and KG2 munchkins played shape hopscotch and learnt about the basic 2D and 3D shapes using clay , toothpicks, and straws.
All in all, STEAM Week was an extremely eventful time for pre-primary segment at GIIS Whitefield and gave kids the opportunity to dive deep into the subjects through hands-on activities and let their creativity and imagination run miles without any bounds.
