GIIS Whitefield’s Innovation in STEAM program brings home the Award at the 18th ELETS World Education Awards Summit

It gives immense delight to speak at length, of the innovative teaching methodologies brought into practice by the teachers at GIIS, which has brought about a magnificent change in the overall pattern of the learning among the students. This time, Global Indian International School, Whitefield received the promising award for ‘Innovation in STEAM’ Category at the 18th ELETS World Education Awards Summit.

The introduction of the STEAM program, (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics), has helped to bring the outside world into the classroom and positively challenged students to think critically, promote confident and thoughtful dialogue delivery benefitting them as learners and as future professionals. The concept helps to get a good understanding about the progress of various learning outcomes, achievements, and also indicates the strengths & weaknesses of learners in different subjects. Interestingly this fosters in the students the art of respecting different opinions and builds on their conflict management and presentation skills. As teachers say, this approach helps foster a scientific temperament and give students' minds a logical bent.

The results of STEAM have been phenomenal at GIIS Whitefield and since it inspires collaboration, co-operation, and research education, a considerable increase in the efficiency factor has been seen by decreasing cycle time of teaching and learning in the classroom. There has been a considerable change in terms of factual statistics and an improvement of attendance from 75% to 85% has been registered in 2020-21. Another aspect is that there has been a noticeable decrease of behavioural issues by 42% because students are engaged productively in project-based learning and hands-on activities. There has been an increase in curiosity among students about the world around them and feel empowered to change it for the better. STEAM is indeed a very effective way to make learning through a gradual creative process with effective skills that helps them to think ‘out of the box as a learner in life.
