‘World Peace Day’ observed across GIIS India Campuses

As countries across the world continue to grapple with the impact of Covid-19, this year marks the 75th Anniversary of first atomic bombing history in the world that levelled the city of Hiroshima in 1945. With an aim to spread the message of World Peace amongst its students, Global Indian International School organized a virtual event across its campuses in India.

As part of the virtual meet, various activities like slogan writing, poem competition, quiz, postage stamp designing competition, etc. were conducted with students across GIIS campuses to emphasize on the importance of peace and harmony in the world. More than 2000 GIIS students across the country were a part of this virtual event to commemorate ‘Peace Day’. Known for its emphasis on Gandhian values and their renowned Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Universal Values (MGCUV), GIIS strongly promotes peace and harmony to nurture responsible leaders of tomorrow.

The teachers organized Special Virtual sessions were for students across the GIIS campuses in Noida, Pune, Ahmedabad, Whitefield and Bannerghatta (Bengaluru), to mark the 75th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, offer respect the martyrs and to pray for lasting world peace in present times. The story of Sadako, on making cranes, was also narrated to students followed by creative writing activity on messages related to Peace, of which students shared pictures during the virtual meet. Some students also shared their video bytes where they sang Crimson peace songs on the music compiled by their teachers. Additionally, students also wrote an acrostic poem to wish peace to people in the neighbourhood. The artistic Hiroshima and Nagasaki commemoration postage stamp activity wherein students designed postage stamps and badges depicting the message of world peace was very creative and very intuitive.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Rajiv Bansal, Director-Operations, Global Indian International School (GIIS) India said, “Every GIIS campus is home to a Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Universal Values. Our core values stem from the valuable insights, experiences and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Peace and non-violence are the most important values that we instill in our students, as part of this initiative. As we observe Peace Day virtually, we aim to nurture strong but kind-hearted and responsible next gen leaders. While the world continues to cope with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, our attempt is to ensure students’ education is not impacted and they enjoy a seamless learning experience and develop as well-rounded individuals.”
