On International Yoga Day, GIIS Bannerghatta students learned many asanas for good health

“You cannot always control what goes on outside, but you can always control what goes on inside.” In these pandemic-ridden times, International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and the importance of fitness for the mind, body, and soul was reinforced through this illustrious day. Hope is eternal and this ancient Indian spiritual practice has indeed stood the test of time as “Asanas” with varying levels of challenges were exhibited by Grades 1 to 6 with ease.

Grade 1 started with breathing techniques and stretched with ease which highlighted the flexibility of the young ones. They also performed the pleasant pose or Sukhasana and found their way to tranquillity under the guidance of their mother's teachers.  Grades 2 to 3 performed Veerabadrasana, Dhanurasana and learnt the basics of Brahmari Pranayama under the supervision of their teachers.

Grades 4, 5, and 6 explored Natarajasana, Vajraasana, Naukasana, Baddha Konasana, Vrikshasana, and many more under the PE Teacher guidance. They also learnt about the benefits that each asana offered and how Yoga goes a long way in healing the overall physical, mental and spiritual health and gives one a direction and disciplines one for many a challenge that life has to offer.

The benefits that Yoga offers were driven home in age-appropriate ways so that students understood the reasons behind the emphasis laid on Yoga and the need to have a day dedicated to Yoga. At GIIS Bannerghatta, the theme of “Yoga for Wellness “was exemplified in more ways than one.
