An eventful Know India Week for GIIS Bannerghatta students

When you begin to explore the history, culture, tradition, art, and almost every aspect of India, it is like entering into a wide knowledge library about India. The stories of freedom are worth reading and understanding the wave of patriotism that resulted in the freedom so precious.

Our students of GIIS Bannerghatta SMART campus were given a wonderful glimpse into the history of Indian Independence for a week and finally culminating in the celebration of 15th August. They created splendid artwork, celebrating Independence and also learning more about India, throughout the Know India Week. On the first day of the week, teachers inculcated the freedom feel through the slide show where the children learnt more about India. On Day 2 and 3, the children of Nursery enjoyed learning the National fruit – Mango; National Sport – Hockey through craft activities like paper tearing and sticking and making hockey sticks and balls with ice cream sticks. Later on day 4 and 5, the KG 1 kids learnt the National Bird – Peacock and National Flower lotus through craft activities and KG 2 kids learnt National Animal – Tiger and National Tree – Banyan tree through art and craft activities. Also, all three grades did the tricolour flag activity as well that helped them understand the significance of the different hues of our flag.

It was a special moment that GIIS Bannerghatta family met virtually on 13th August 2021 to celebrate 75th Independence Day and to remember the sacrifices of the brave Indian freedom fighters, whose sacrifice and devotion have made all of us breathe peacefully in independent India today. After many years of British rule, on August 15th 1947, when at first, freedom was felt by our leaders, the same is still felt within us undoubtedly. Though diverse in language and culture, we are united under Mother India’s arms as a country. The little children from Pre-Primary presented the show and expressed the bravery of our freedom fighters like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Subash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Chandrasekhar Azad, Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi, Savitri Bai Phule, Sarojini Naidu, and many more. All the grades definitely learned a lot about India and the love for their motherland also became very strong.
