Students shine at Inter GIIS Ramanujan Quiz

India observes the National Mathematics Day every year on 22nd December since 2012. The day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mathematics Wizard  Srinivasa Ramanujan, popularly known as ‘The Man Who Knew Infinity.’ This year, as the nation celebrated his 134th Birth Anniversary, the Mathematics Department of GIIS Ahmedabad organized an array of exciting activities at school as part of the ‘Ramanujan Week Celebrations’ to promote Mathematics and the interest of the students in the subject.

GIIS Ahmedabad believes that a strong foundation in Mathematics helps develop the problem-solving and analytical skills of the students. The subject which is often dreaded can actually be fun to learn if the students can see its real-world applications and are taught the tricks to solve the problems with a different approach. The enthusiasm of the students of Grades 3 to 9 was at its peak as they took part in various activities like Maths Puzzles, Mazes, Crosswords, Working Models, Presentations, Math Games, and Inter Section Quizzes on the Quizzes Platform which were meticulously planned by the teachers.

GIIS Ahmedabad students also participated in Inter GIIS Ramanujan Quiz (India Campuses) – Junior and Senior Categories hosted by GIIS Smart Campus Hadapsar and GIIS Noida respectively. The Senior team from GIIS Ahmedabad comprising of the students- Ankit Vishnubatla (Grade 7), Soham Srivastava (Grade 8), and Akarsh Rohella (Grade 9) bagged the First Runners Up Position whereas the Junior Team of Arham Ajmera (Grade 4), Darshil Kacchadiya (Grade 5) and Ayaan Chettiar (Grade 6) secured the Second Runners Up Position.

Mr. Caesar D’silva, Principal- GIIS Ahmedabad, congratulated the winners of the Inter GIIS Quiz and the Mathematics Department for the wonderful week-long celebrations. Clarifying the objective behind observing the Ramanujan Week Celebrations, he states, “Srinivasa Ramanujan, one of the greatest Mathematics India has ever produced,  had a wealth of ideas that have transformed and reshaped 20th Century Mathematics. These ideas continue to shape the Mathematics of the 21st Century. We, at GIIS Ahmedabad, took this opportunity to make our students aware about the contributions of this great genius and also ignite the spark of interest and wonder for Mathematics among our students,  as a learning for life.”
