“The greatness of a culture can be found in its festivals.”
Dear Parent,
Greetings of the day!
The Global Indian International School (GIIS) Ahmedabad believes that festivals add joy, festive mood, family bond, skill development, and many more attractions in our life. The month of October was full of festivities which added happiness to everyone’s life. GIIS Ahmedabad organized the extravaganza of cultural festivals of Navratri and Diwali. Also, GIIS Ahmedabad tried to inculcate the values of compassion and empathy by celebrating Joy of Giving week.
The most awaited event of the year, the Grand Navratri Celebration ‘Raas Ni Ramjhat’ on 30th September and 1st October 2022 in four groups. The students and parents were cordially invited to a cultural extravaganza at GIIS Ahmedabad playground. The occasion took the audience into the world of Gujarat’s tradition and culture.
The Navratri Celebration of each group started with worshiping of Goddess Amba - the epitome of wisdom, courage and power. All the students from tiny tots of Kindergarten to Grade 12 presented mesmerizing performances in groups that were loved by one and all. The students’ performances were followed by the Garba presentations by teachers and staff members. The parents also swayed along with students during the Sheri-Garba, wherein the audience enthusiastically played Raas. The parents, students, and teachers were overjoyed with the grand celebration.
Along with celebrations, GIIS Ahmedabad also takes an initiative to inculcate the values of harmony, compassion, and brotherhood among students. Being a signatory of UN-SDG, GIIS Ahmedabad organized the ‘Joy of Giving' week. We believe that when we share smiles, we receive smiles. It is an irreplaceable experience to bring happiness to someone’s life. Taking that into account, GIIS Ahmedabad organized the joy of giving, learning, and rejuvenating week.
The students created Gullak at home to collect chocolates, stationery, money, biscuits, and other things for the underprivileged. Parents of GMP to Grade 2 sections were also encouraged to contribute dal-rice, toys, and clothes which were later distributed to the underprivileged by the student council and teachers.
We believe that Joy of Giving is not about being materialistic, therefore, the tiny tots were assigned to spend some time with their helpers at home to teach them several skills like reading, writing, dancing, singing and others.
GIIS Ahmedabad organized a Diwali celebration to add colors, joy, festive mood, family bond, parent engagement, skill development and many more attractions. The students of GMP to Grade 12 conducted various festive activities during Diwali celebrations. GMP segment celebrated "Diwali ka Tyohar Maa ke Sang" wherein the mothers were given an opportunity to create memories with their little ones by participating in various competitions like rangoli making, no flame cookery, gift wrapping, thali decoration, and many more. GIIS Ahmedabad was overjoyed to organize the Diwali celebration for more than 100 mother-child duos.
The dynamic competitions were conducted for the students of Grades 1 to 8 to showcase their culinary and creative skills. Diya decoration, toran making, and lantern making were the competitions for grades 1 to 5. The students of Grades 6 to 8 were involved in rangoli-design competitions with a message to society.
GIIS Ahmedabad focuses on the 9GEMS framework and keeping that in mind, the Parent Teacher Meeting (PTM) was conducted for all the grades of GMP to Grade 12 to apprise the results of the assessments conducted last month. PTM was highly appreciated by the parents after interacting with the teachers and knowing the progress report of their child.
Besides the calendar activities, GIIS Ahmedabad organized a book launch for three students. I feel thrilled to share that the best-selling author Devanshi Sharma visited the campus to launch a new anthology of stories titled ‘Box full of stories'. This anthology contains seven stories of which three were written by the students of GIIS Ahmedabad. The students of Grade 5 - Aarav Purandhar, Kapeesh Singh, and Saavya Jain participated in the Story Book Writing Workshop.
GIIS Ahmedabad is gearing up with GIIS IDEATE - an InterSchool competition, GIIS MUN and other mega-events and competitions in the month of December. I am truly looking forward to an exciting time ahead where all the students will perform marvelously in these competitions.
Warm Regards,
Caesar D’silva
