From the U-14 team players, 4 young members – Jayshil Sompura, Mac Baldha, Darsh Devani, and Shresth Sharma have been selected to represent Ahmedabad city at this esteemed state-level championship. A total of 19 schools participated in the district-level tournament and our U-14 boys team won the pre-quarterfinal match against Khyati World School with a score of 4-0.
In the quarter-finals, the young champions defeated the team of Global Mission International School with a 3-0 score and qualified for the final round after beating the team of Ahmedabad International School with a score of 2-0 in the semi-final.
The performance of the U-14 boys won great appreciation from all the stakeholders of GIIS Ahmedabad. The final goal by the captain (Jayshil Sompura) himself bagged the team the title of district champions. Sharing his experience, he said, “The pressure during the final match was extremely high. The boys were under-confident and being the team captain my job was to motivate them to the best of my abilities. The team was filled with enthusiasm after which we scored the first goal. Although the Udgam team gave us a tough fight on the ground, I applaud them for that match.”
Mr. Caesar D’silva, GIIS Ahmedabad Principal applauded the students for the exceptional victory in the tournament. He said, “I am extremely touched by the level of hard work, dedication and perseverance I have witnessed in the past few weeks. The victory is the epitome of devotion and dedication. I would also like to congratulate Mr. Kshitij Jain, the football coach for his invaluable support. I wish them good luck for the upcoming tournaments.”
The School Games Federation of India has been recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The organisation believes that such tournaments like SGFI help in identifying and nurturing young sports enthusiasts across the country.
