GIIS Ahmedabad students took oath on ‘Van Mahotsav’ to preserve Mother Earth

“Plans to protect air and water, wilderness and wildlife, are in fact plans to protect man.” Stewart L. Udall

With the aim of spreading awareness for the protection of forests and wildlife, GIIS Ahmedabad organized ‘Van Mahotsav. This ‘Mahotsav’ was held to sensitize the students about the benefits of greenery in our environment. The initiative to celebrate ‘Van Mahostav’ was taken by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Kanaiyalala Maneklal Munshi in the Year 1950 and since then this ‘Mahotsav’  is celebrated annually across the nation.

The kindergarteners of GIIS Ahmedabad participated in the Van Mahotsav through various activities like plantation drives and sowing seeds in order to understand the need of preserving green resources.

On the occasion of ‘Van Mahotsav’, the students of Grade 2 (both morning and afternoon shifts)   held a special assembly in the school's Multi-Purpose Hall. They presented a drama depicting the pain of the trees while being cut, in order to highlight the evil effects of deforestation and ways to preserve Mother Earth and natural resources. The drama was based on the story of a woodcutter who cut down the trees for his survival. Later he decided not to cut them as they provide us with food and shelter. On his way back home, he got inspired by a little girl who was planting a sapling. She was cultivating the plants for her children and grandchildren. The woodcutter also decided to plant a sapling. All the students presented the drama with zeal and confidence.

The special assembly also included a speech on the importance of  ‘Van Mahotsav’ followed by a prayer, the thoughts of the day, news, dance, and a gratitude note.

After the assembly, Mr. Caesar D’silva, Principal of GIIS Ahmedabad addressed the students and said,  “Today’s event is about celebrating Mother Earth. Everyone from youngsters to elders should try to save nature by keeping it clean like the way we keep our home. A common thing between all humans, birds, and animals in nature. If we cannot give back something to nature in return, at least we should not try to destroy it."
