GIIS Ahmedabad students celebrated Guru Purnima to honor their ‘Gurus’

“A Guru is similar to a candle that consumes itself in order to illuminate the path for others.”

The students of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Ahmedabad celebrated the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima on 13th July 2022, Wednesday. The celebration was organized to strengthen the relationship between students and teachers. The Sanskrit word ‘Guru’ refers to someone who removes the darkness of illiteracy and ignorance from our lives. Along with teaching co-curricular activities, they also try to foster morality and life skills that prepare kids for life after school.

In order to celebrate the most revered ‘Guru-Shishya’ bond of love and respect, the students of GMP were dressed in yellow traditional attire. During circle time, the teachers of Nursery Classes narrated stories and sang rhymes to sensitize the students towards the importance of ‘Gurus’ in life.

A Speak-Up and Recitation activity was also organized wherein the students of K1  had to recite bhajans or speak a few sentences on the topic - ‘My Guru: My Guide’. While a special assembly was conducted by the students of K2 C, where they paid tribute to their teachers through a blissful dance performance. A mythological drama portraying the ‘Guru-Shishya’ bond between Lord Hanuman and Sun God was performed with zeal.

The students of Grades 1 and 2 made beautiful bracelets as a token of love and respect for their teachers using thread and beads. The students of Grades 3 to 5 expressed their gratitude to the teachers through various activities like making cards with heartfelt messages, reciting poems, singing a song on ‘Guru-Shishya’, and preparing a creative and colourful poster mentioning the importance of ‘Gurus’ in one’s life.

Expressing his gratitude and admiring all the ‘Gurus’, Mr. Caesar D’silva, Principal of GIIS Ahmedabad said in his speech, “Besides co-curricular and academic skills, a ‘Guru’ will give you the intuitive powers to categorize between the right and the wrong. A ‘Guru’ tries to inculcate the values of discipline, self-control and morality in our lives. The teachers at GIIS Ahmedabad try to provide cognitive knowledge of different subjects and give a broad vision of life with a selfless attitude.”

Vice Principal, Ms. Gayatri Moras said in her message, “In the Indian tradition, ‘Gurus’ are revered as Gods. This itself shows how important teachers or ‘Gurus’ are in our lives! On the occasion of Guru Purnima, I wish to convey my heartfelt gratitude to all the teachers of the world."
