“A country’s greatness lies in its undying ideals of love and sacrifice that inspire the mothers of the race.”- Sarojini Naidu

Keeping the spirit of the above adage, the students, parents, and teachers of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Ahmedabad celebrated Independence Day by paying tribute to the freedom fighters, martyrs, and Indian soldiers. The events performed on Independence Day 2022 were based on the theme Nation First, Always First.

To mark this day, the tiny tots of GMP were donned in Tricolor traditional attire. The kindergartners stood in the position that forms the number ‘75’ to represent the ‘75th Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration. Parents were instructed to send the Tricolor food items. Grade 1 and 2 students learned about the 17 National Symbols of India like the National Flag, National Anthem, National Song, and National Emblem among others.

During the assembly, the students of Grade 3 to 5 light up the spirit of patriotism with their powerful performance of the song ‘Sare Jahan Se Acha Hindustan Hamara’. The lyrics of the song were shared with the students a day before the event.

In order to showcase their feeling of patriotism, a patriotic song competition was organized among the students of Grade 6 to 8. A number of groups, duo, and solo performances were presented by the students on various songs like Hai Preet Jahan ki Reet Sada, Kar Chalein Hum Fida, Ae Watan Aabaad Rahe Tu, and many more.

On 15th August 2022, GIIS Ahmedabad united the students, parents, and teachers together to celebrate Independence Day based on the theme ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’. The esteemed singer Ms. Bina Kalavant and Ustaad Kadar Khan of Kalavant Academy, USA graced the occasion with their presence as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor, respectively. The guests hoisted the National Flag at 9:00 AM with respect to the guidelines by the Government of India. An array of events were presented by teachers and students like poems, character talk, yoga performances, and more.

On this occasion, Mr. Caesar D’silva, Principal of GIIS Ahmedabad congratulated the audience and said, “We are extremely proud of our Indian Armies. We are celebrating Independence Day but my heart goes out for the children who are underprivileged to get basic necessities. Let us all wish for those children and pledge to enlighten their lives."
