‘Do what you love and success will follow. Passion is the fuel behind a successful career.”
The famous quote by Meg Whitman can usually be heard by many motivational speakers. However, the major hindrance for the students is what career to choose and how to pursue it after graduating from school. In order to solve the doubts and dilemmas, the Global Indian International School (GIIS) Ahmedabad organized an LLS (Leadership Lecture Series) for Grade 9 to 12 students to discuss various career opportunities after schooling and how to pursue such courses.
The LLS session was conducted by the pre-eminent career counselor and educational psychometrist, Mr. Mohit Mangal at the Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH). During the session, Mr. Mangal displayed a presentation about the streams (Humanities, Commerce, and Science), various courses, and career options available for students in accordance with their streams.
In addition to that, he also discussed the other courses and career options irrespective of streams that can be pursued for a better future. In his session, he emphasized developing vocational skills which will prove to be an asset to the students in their professional journey.
Furthermore, Mr. Mohit suggested students remove all the dubious thoughts before choosing an appropriate career option. In his speech, he focused on the hurdles or dilemmas such as peer/family pressure, societal norms, overthinking, comparisons, lack of career opportunities, and other barriers which students come across before the selection of their preferred course of study. However, he shared some best real-life experiences of successful personalities which made students realize that ‘one good decision can change their life.'
Being an experienced motivational speaker, Mr. Mohit Mangal conducted a Q&A session with the students to solve as many queries as he could. It was overwhelming to witness that the seniors were well-acquainted with the courses they wish to pursue.
Samiksha Dey, a Grade 11 Humanities student shared her experience, “Mr. Mohit Mangal's session was quite interesting and fruitful. It introduced me to a new way of viewing students be it academic, practical, or person-oriented. His outlook on vocational skills and streams was informative and necessary for higher-grade students like us to know. Being in grade 11, the session was very helpful as it gave me valuable insight on the various opportunities that I can explore in the future.”
