GIIS Ahmedabad celebrated 'Good Citizenship Week' on the theme-' A Better Me' for the students of GMP to Grade 2 from 13th to 17th December 2021. The young minds were sensitized about the qualities of a good citizen- such as respecting the elders, family members, being honest and trustworthy, and being respectful. They also learnt about the importance of being responsible and doing the best service for the community.
During the week-long celebration, the teachers shared information and explained about ‘Good Citizenship Week’ and the characteristics & qualities of good citizens. They showed wonderful presentations and videos so that the students understand these qualities. The children imbibed the values through insightful and meaningful activities and were engrossed in the activities to the fullest.
The children learnt about the quality of honesty through various examples and story narration. They were involved in an interactive session wherein sets of pictures depicting the act of honesty and dishonesty were displayed on the screen and they had to state the acts of honesty and dishonesty respectively.
A day-wise responsibility chart was given as a home activity for the students. The chart had responsibilities like personal, household, and social enlisted and the students earned bonus points for following these. The idea was to teach them the importance of being responsible and develop habits for the same.
The presentation of the value 'Respect' focused on the basic rule 'Give respect to Get Respect' and the children were also apprised about 'Respect Yourself'. The teachers explained in detail about respect towards the environment, others' time, belongings, taking care of school property and public property. The teachers explained the meaning of courage and being strong and facing the challenges of life.
A day was specially designed for the Parent Engagement Programme - Role Reversal. The parents volunteered for Guest lectures and grabbed the golden opportunity to become teachers for a day. They joined the classes and conducted value-based sessions for the children. The enthusiastic participation of the parents is really appreciable.
The students actively participated in other home-recommended activities like 'You Smile, I Smile' by contributing to the less- privileged and 'A Family Bond' by creating fusion recipes.
The culmination of the week-long celebration was done through an empty pot activity. The children created beautiful and colourful flower pots. They filled the pot with traits they imbibed during the celebration.
Mr. Caesar D'silva, Principal congratulated the GIIS Ahmedabad Team for creating a wonderful plan for imparting good qualities to future citizens
