A new academic session of opportunities and learnings

Our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change. -Martin Luther King Jr.

Dear Parent,

The month of April 2021 marked the beginning of the Academic Year 2021-22.  While the world is still grappling with the pandemic, it has become evident that the online platform is the only available option for providing education to our children as of now. We, at GIIS Ahmedabad, are continuously reinventing ourselves as per the ‘new normal’ to make learning through the online platform an enjoyable and enriching experience for our children.

A special online Orientation session was conducted on the first day of the new session for the students and parents for introducing them to the new subject teachers, time table, google classroom, netiquettes, mygiis and sharing other relevant information.

Our student Kavyan Savani from Grade 12 (Batch 2020-21) made us proud by bagging the second spot in National Coding Olympiad Junior (NCO Jr.) conducted by Wissenaire IIT Bhubaneshwar in association with Super Teacher.

Nostalgia, tears of happiness, laughter, and the sounds of excitement were the highlights of the virtual ‘Best Wishes Party’ organized for the students of Grade 10 (Batch 2020-21) to celebrate the important milestone of their stepping into the world of Senior Secondary from Secondary School. The online classes for Grade 11 have commenced for these students. The school already had the Science and Commerce streams and for the first time, we have launched the Humanities stream for Grade 11 this year.

The former PM of UK, Margaret Thatcher was absolutely right when she said, “No generation has a freehold on this earth. All we have is a life tenancy, with a full repairing lease”. GIIS Ahmedabad has always consciously tried to imbibe the care for Mother Earth in the students, right from the formative years. How could we let the Earth's day pass by without reiterating our promise to care for our planet? A lot of grade-wise activities were conducted in the school to observe Earth Day and promote the message to conserve Earth.

Math Camp held for Grades 1 to 10 was a huge success as the students rediscovered the joy of learning Math through invigorating and challenging activities posed to them. A tribute was paid to the unconditional and selfless love of Mothers during the Mother’s Day celebrations.

The month of April was observed across all GIIS India Campuses as the ‘Reading Month’. The children were introduced to the wonderful world of reading through an array of activities organized for Grades 1 to 5 as part of this event. A Leadership Lecture Series session by an expert was arranged for the students of Grades 6 to 10 based on GEM 1 i.e. Academic Excellence to motivate the students to excel in academics.

Educating our children regarding Safety in all areas is one of our important commitments at GIIS. The students were made aware about personal safety during the pandemic, safety at home, safety at school and outside, cyber ethics and security, and various self-defense techniques during the Safety Week observed by GIIS Ahmedabad.

We look forward to welcoming back our students, re-energized and rejuvenated after the Summer Holidays!

Till then, we pray to the Almighty to keep us all healthy and safe during this challenging time.

Warm regards,

Caesar D’silva

Principal, GIIS Ahmedabad
