“He teaches me how to be strong, he loves me unconditionally. He is hard outside but loving and caring. He is my hero, my father”.

Father's Day is a day marked for honouring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, cherishing parental bonds, and acknowledging the role of fathers in shaping the lives of their children, and remembering the countless sacrifices they make for their families.

GIIS Ahmedabad, celebrated this day in its special way on the theme- ‘My Dad, My Hero’ on 18th & 19th June 2021. It was a wonderful occasion for the children to express their gratitude towards their superhero, their father, for his unconditional love. 

To start with, teachers shared information about the love, bond, emotions, and gratitude between the child and father through PPT presentations and videos during the special assemblies held as part of the celebration. The students of Grades 3 to 8 participated in a ‘Chit-Chat’ session sharing their thoughts on the theme. A few students expressed their feelings and emotions through self-written poems during these assemblies.

The concept of participation of father and child in an array of activities made this event truly memorable. The fathers got an opportunity to take time out of their busy schedules and cherish lovely moments with their children. Events such as ‘Fashion Show- Look Alike’, ‘Party with Dad’ showcasing the Dance Skills of the Duo, ‘Role Reversal’-wherein the child played the role of father and vice versa and ‘Interview with My Dad’ was organized for the students and fathers of Nursery to Grade 8.

Gratitude provides happiness and one should never miss the opportunity to express this. The children created a beautiful collage of pictures based on the incidents, events, or acts for which they wanted to pay gratitude to their fathers. The videos of these activities made everyone speechless and emotional at the same time.

The creative learners of Nursery to Grade 2 also created a Tie with a ‘moustache’ and ‘eyes’ for their fathers decorating it with their favourite materials. The students expressed their love through beautiful messages written by them on the Tie.

GIIS Ahmedabad always focuses on inculcating healthy eating habits. Keeping this in mind, A healthy salad-making activity was organized for Nursery to Grade 2 on this occasion. This activity was planned to develop the culinary skills of the students. The students prepared the salad and enjoyed the activity ‘Dine with Dad’

Mr. Caesar D’silva, Principal, GIIS Ahmedabad applauded the fathers for the important role they play in the lives of their children and said. “Fatherhood is a gift and a blessing from the Almighty. Fathers should share equal responsibility with the mothers and spend quality time with their children. Fathers are indeed the Role Model for a child, in fact, they are the first ‘Super Heroes’ for their children”.

An LLS (Leadership Lecture Series) Session was also organized, especially for the fathers of all our students, on the eve of Father's Day. The renowned motivational speaker & family counsellor, Mr. Geo Varghese was the speaker for the event and the topic was ‘Back to Basics, Parenting in a Disrupted World’. It was an insightful and meaningful session with a lot of takeaways. Mr. Varghese touched upon the relevant points like how to go back to the basics and share happy moments with children. He also provided tips on the dinner routine, sleep routine, and the LED (Learn, Enjoy and Do) that can be followed as a family. He emphasized the fact that children should feel loved and safe. The session concluded with a beautiful poem on ‘Father’s Day.
