Global Indian International School (GIIS) joins Singapore in grieving the loss of former President S R Nathan. GIIS students, staff, and board members convey their deepest condolences to Mr Nathan’s family.
Former President S R Nathan was an eminent leader and diplomat, he was also known for his contributions to the society and empathy towards the less-fortunate. Mr Nathan, served as the sixth president of Singapore from 1 September 1999 to 31 August 2011, making him Singapore’s longest-serving president. Prior to his presidency, Mr Nathan held key positions in security, intelligence and foreign affairs, and chaired various companies and academic institutions. Many of those who have known him speak of him as someone who is kind, compassionate and a simple man.
In 2010, Mr Nathan interacted with our students at the Global Indian Star ceremony organised by Global Indian International School, Singapore, where he presided as the guest of honour. Students were very fortunate to be able to interact with him and his willingness to share about his principles and society’s values to them.
Co-founder and Chairman of Global School Foundation (GSF), Mr Atul Temurnikar said, “Mr Nathan is a true inspiration and a reflection of Singapore’s strong multi-cultural and social identity. His endeavors paved the way for the Nation’s growth and development”.
