On the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar, the renowned Indian politician and social reformer, the Embassy of India organised an event at the Vivekananda Cultural Centre Auditorium on 14 April 2016. The event was organised to recall Dr Ambedkar’s pivotal contribution to the formation of modern India and his pursuit for social equality and justice. The programme included screening excerpts from a documentary on the life of Dr Ambedkar and an address by HE Ambassador Sujan R Chinoy and reading of excerpts from essays on the ‘Life of Dr Ambedkar’ by students GIIS Tokyo Campus and another schools. It was followed by a quiz on the life of Dr Ambedkar and the Constitution of India.

Students of Class 9 from GIIS Tokyo Campus quite ardently and enthusiastically took part in the essay writing and came up with some brilliant essays. The students had to research and write the essays between 800 to 1000 words. The following three essays were shortlisted and awarded certificates and cash prizes at the Indian Embassy.

The certificates and cash prizes were distributed by HE Mr Chinoy, Ambassador of India to Japan. The students were accompanied to the Indian Embassy by Ms Yasmeen Jahir and Ms Sarbani Choudary.
