GIIS students have prevailed once again among the topmost scorers worldwide in IGCSE Class 10 2011 exams with splendid results. The outstanding marks are turning heads across Singapore with appreciation for the IGCSE students and faculty at GIIS Queenstown and GIIS East Coast Campuses. The success of the students bears testimony to the exponential growth of the IGCSE programme at GIIS. Joining the ranks of the topmost league of the worlds students is 70% of the cohort, securing the maximum possible mark of 100 in at least one subject. Of the 31 students who appeared for the IGCSE 2011 Examination, 90% were awarded ICE with Distinction. The efforts of teachers and students, along with the support of the management and parents, have reached fruition. Out of 31 students appearing for Class 10 IGCSE exams from GIIS Queenstown Campus, 6 students stand out for achieving all A*s and bringing accolades to the school. They are:

Ms Sutha Ramakrishnan, Coordinator, IGCSE at GIIS Queenstown Campus says that the IGCSE Class 10 students were able to achieve such phenomenal result as an outcome of the strategies adopted by the school team of dedicated and committed teachers. “Bench marking sessions enabled students to set and achieve targets, focused and personalised remedial sessions and well structured intensive coaching prepared them to handle all levels of difficulty. Also carefully thought and structured pre board examinations enabled students to gain a first hand examination experience before the actual exam thus equipping them with the strength to handle exam stress.” “Every chapter was introduced with a recapitulation of grass root level fundamentals,” says Mr Nandakumar, Maths Teacher. “This ensured a thorough understanding of the concept and its application. Authentic situations were used to create interest for the subject. Follow up work, regular feedback helped reinforce learning and doubt clearing. Other strategies that enabled student success was early completion of syllabus to facilitate many cycles of revision. Special attention was given to different ability learners to improve their performance.” 13 students appeared in the first Class 10 IGCSE batch from GIIS East Coast Campus and have brought laurels to the school.
