Class 12 GIIS student Sathish Raghuraman secures a top position in National Cyber Olympiad (NCO)

GIIS student Sathish Raghuraman can be hailed as a shining beacon for GIIS students participating in competitive international exams. Sathish has secured 7th rank (at an all-Asia level) in the National Cyber Olympiad (NCO) conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF), India. According to the SOF, 2,02,000 students appeared for the 10th NCO in 2010 which makes the feat by Sathish truly laudable.

In the first level of the NCO competition held on 1st Sept 2010 Sathish qualified among the top 500 cyber-savvy talents of India, the only candidate from Singapore to have qualified for this.

In the second level of the competition conducted on 5th Feb 2011 he secured the 7th rank, a feat that has gone a long way in recognizing the potential of the computer science expert.

The NCO is a global competition that aims at identifying and nurturing talent amongst youngsters. It is an international level competition focusing on Mental Ability, Logical and Analytical Reasoning in computers and IT.

NCO is conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF), India, a non-profit organization established by leading academicians, scientists and media personalities with the aim of promoting science, mathematics and computer education. The Science Olympiad Foundation has been striving for over a decade to promote scientific attitude through innovative activities and use of IT in learning process that involves school students across India.

students can be judged academically at four different levels - within the school, at city and state level, and above all at All-India level. Finally students are awarded based on their national ranking. Prizes include medals, books and magazines, cash prizes, computers, laptops, etc. The prizes for the first 3 toppers of each class are awarded at a grand prize distribution ceremony presided over by an eminent personality. The top 500 All-India ranked students of the first level competition from each class are eligible to appear in the 2nd level online / offline exam.

Sathish is preparing for his Class 12 CBSE Board exams with a keen intent to pursue Computer Science Engineering as a career. The achievement of lead scores in the NCO exams has been fuelled by a deep interest in the subject and supporting academic studies at GIIS.
