Students of GIIS Tokyo took part in a SmartBowl quiz contest that was hosted by the renowned Indian quizmaster, Giri Balasubramanium, who is famously nicknamed 'Pickbrain'. The competition took place on 20 January, 2018 at the Funabori Tower Hall. Mr Balasubramanium has authored several books on quiz and has also initiated quite a few student knowledge enhancement programs for school children.

GIIS Tokyo students of grades 6 to 9 first participated in an internal school level written quiz contest conducted on December 5, 2017. 20 selected students from this quiz contest formed teams of 2 each to represent the school.  In all, 6 international schools in Tokyo took part in the event with a total of over 80 students.

SpotEd Japan, a Tokyo based educational venture, conducted the written preliminary round with the teams on 20 January, 2018. Two of GIIS Tokyo teams were among the six team members selected for the finals. The teams were divided as follows:

1. Team Dragons - Mikhail Paglinawan and Abhinava Tejas (Grade 9)
2. Team Rocket Launchers - Vaibhav Kumar (Grade 8) and Vivaan Shyam (Grade 6).

The questions for the quiz ranged from a variety of topics like current affairs, science and technology, art and literature to general knowledge. There was an audio and a rapid fire round too for the competition, which was an intense, nail-biting, and an electrifying session.

GIIS, Tokyo finalist - Team Dragons - Mikhail Paglinawan and Abhinava Tejas of Grade 9 bagged the 2^nd place in the competition.

The school Principal, Ms. Rajeswary Sambathrajan and the Vice Principal Mr. Sandeep Singh cheered and encouraged the students for doing their best. The event was coordinated by Ms. Yasmeen Jahir, Head- Department of Social Science.

It was a happy moment for the entire school as the students were given excellent opportunity to explore their talents.
