History is not only about people, it also encompasses how they have shaped their landscape, the technologies they use and the ideas and beliefs which sustain, unite and divide them, hence history is an art of telling stories in a right manner.

The students of GIIS, Tokyo (Grade 7 to 10) witnessed this form of history through a Guest Lecture by Mr. Rajeev Katyal, Country Director - India and Japan, and author of the book 'The Battles for Delhi: Dilli Kareeb Ast' which was released last year.

The book stresses the importance of preserving and strengthening the unity and integrity of India by ensuring a strong, unifying rule at the center, and it critically examines how conditions of high unity led to a successful defense of India's territorial integrity and how a weak, fissiparous existence led to India's capitulation to foreign rule.

Mr. Rajeev Katyal holds a very illustrious career. He is an alumnus of IIM Kolkata, a veteran of the Human Resource Development Industry with over thirty years of experience in the field of Education and Skill Development. The Indian history has been his passion, for he believes that it should be written in such a way that it develops greater national pride in young Indians. Similarly, his book makes a passionate plea for not taking India's unity for granted, but for continuously working to preserve and strengthen it.

The students were enthralled with the in depth analysis given by Mr. Rajeev Katyal. He focused on the stories of the battles of the Delhi Sultanate, the Mughal Dynasty, the Rajputs, the Marathas, the Mongols, the Revolt of 1857, the colonial rulers and their political conspiracies, intrigues, jealously, and humiliation. He analyzed almost each and every major battle of Delhi between thirteen and nineteenth centuries.

The students equally matched this captivating session with their questions and answers to Mr. Rajeev Katyal. The session was also attended by the school Principal, the Vice Principal and the teachers.

The Vice Principal, Mr. Sandeep Singh, concluded the session with the vote of thanks by emphasizing that history becomes interesting to learn with unique and gifted story tellers like Mr. Rajeev Katyal. He also congratulated the department of Social Science for conducting such lecture series and for imbibing in students the interest towards the subject.
