Global Indian International School Tokyo Campus celebrated its 11th Annual Day on November 12, 2016 at the Funabori Tower Hall, Tokyo. This was the second set of Annual Day for the school for classes 3 to 12. Earlier this year, the school celebrated a different event for the Kindergarteners and classes 1 to 2.

The school wore a festive look coupled with music and songs that filled the air. The children were in their best attire. Under the guidance and direction of Principal, Ms Rajeswary Sambathrajan, the entire program was planned and coordinated by Ms Aditi Patki, and groomed by the teachers.

The event started with the welcoming of the Guest of Honor, Ambassador Akitaka Saiki, adviser at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. Mr Saiki is also closely associated with the Mitsubishi Corporation. He has also been an Ambassador of Japan to India. As a Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr Saiki has assisted Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe and strived to strengthen the ties between India and Japan.

Ambassador Aftab Seth, Vice President, Global Schools Foundation also graced the event. Both Ambassador Akitaka Saiki and Ambassador Aftab Seth were led to the auditorium by the school Principal, Ms Rajeswary Sambathrajan.

The event started with a welcome speech by Ms Sobia Mushtaq, Head of the English Department, who later introduced the four student emcees of the event. Principal, Ms Rajeswary Sambathrajan presented the annual report, highlighting the achievements of the school, and thanked Ambassador Aftab Seth for his constant support. It was followed by the Guest of Honor Ambassador Akitaka Saiki, who spoke a few words of wisdom and appreciated the school’s effort.

The variety of programs at the event included, the invocation dance, a skit on urging people to lessen their screen time, an umbrella dance, a Japanese play by Kenji Miyazawa called, “Wild Cats and Acorns”, a musical on unconventional musical instruments, puppet and Greek Sirtaki dances and “The Merchant of Venice” by William Shakespeare.

The Grand finale of the event justly conveyed the actual essence of GIIS Tokyo Campus. The collaborative efforts of the teachers, staff and support staff combined together helped in creating the memorable moment where time seemed to have come to a standstill. With the auditorium lighting up with serene candles, it was indeed an extraordinary sight for every individual present, as they sang and swayed their candles for a "Global World". Starting with the peace mantra 'Asatoma Sat Gamaya', the school then sang the Japanese song "Sekai wa hitotsuni naru made”. This song too was dedicated to the global unity. The finale ended with the feet tapping English song 'The World is Ours' where the voices of students, teachers and parents joined in to create a truly joyful and touching moment. Some had tears in their eyes, some got goosebumps, some just stood mesmerized and delighted. It was a 'Grand Finale' in its true sense. The idea and concept of the finale was that of Ms Sarbany Choudhary, and was supported by Ms Gayatri Kulkarni.
